Originally intended to protect the spirit of the sport - “Locals only” in surfing culture refers to the unwritten rule that certain surf spots are reserved for those who live in the area or have earned the respect of the local community. It’s a concept deeply rooted in the history and traditions of surfing, where locals prioritize preserving the integrity and soul of their waves against overcrowding by outsiders…I don’t personally follow “the code” but I can appreciate the concept of keep a certain spaces sacred.
