In the Sonoran Desert, the saguaro cactus grows naturally. The majestic saguaro stands tall as a symbol of resilience and endurance. It holds profound significance for most Native Americans, who view them as sacred beings—believed to be their departed ancestors offering spiritual solace and nourishment. According to Native American lore, some even regard the saguaro as fallen warriors from their tribes. I was born and raised in the Sonoran desert (Arizona) - and as a child I would often find myself marveling at their lofty stature, their arms outstretched towards the heavens like guardians of nature’s mysteries….. I don’t live in the desert anymore - but now I get to relive that childhood feeling through sculpture…and recreation…and I love it.
